The flight was long but the first 9 hours flew by with the kids sleeping from about 2 hours into the trip until then. There were a couple of moments, but all in all it was fantastic. Dora Explorer on tap through the headrest TVs helped a lot, I must say. I definitely recommend flannel pj's and slippers for long haul flights. :D
I'm now in a little cyber cafe on Washington Boulevard in LA, so no pics yet because I can't upload from here. But I thought we'd let everyone know we were doing great and having heaps of fun.
Jet lagged kids do pose a challenge, but we've managed to stay calm for the most part and made a good day of exploring the city, learning to drive on the wrong side of the road and adventuring through the La Brea tar pits and museum. Now they're munching on their first real taste of American cuisine and generally keeping Daddy on his toes and enjoying the novelty.
There was a hiccough when we realised we'd forgotten to transfer cash into our main account linked to our visa, on top of not having a phone. So Ben went for an adventure through a rough part of town to 7-11 and bought a phone card to sort it out from a pay phone. Of course, then visa required a phone verification, so there was more running around. But we have a great Dodge minivan, with a GPS and doors that open themselves! It's all a part of the learning curve. ;)
I'm now listening to the constant stream of garbage that qualifies as news over here from CNN and listening to a couple of locals converse about socialism (apparently a hot topic with Obama in Europe. Oh noez!!!! He's a socialist!!! lol!). It's crazy but it's great, right down to the hilarious US advertising. lol!
Thanks for reading guys. We love you all, we'll be keeping safe and we'll keep you updated.
