After having trouble with the rental car and not being able to find Aunty Deb's phone number, we decided to go and have some fun with the kids and forget all the stress. Enter the La Brea Tar Pits.
We had tired and slightly grumpy kids, but we were going to have fun anyway, and once they got going, it was great.

The most enormous coy fish I have ever seen. They dwarfed the turtles:
